Yggdrasil Gaming Slots Explained: GigaBlox, MultiMAX, and Splitz

Yggdrasil Gaming Slots Explained: GigaBlox, MultiMAX, and Splitz

Elena Morales10/20/202610/12/2026

A lot of modern slots advertise Wilds, Free Spins, and multipliers. Yggdrasil’s more distinctive games often go further by changing how the reels themselves work.

Symbols can expand into giant blocks, reels can accumulate individual multipliers, mystery stacks can split into matching icons, and reel heights can persist between spins.

These systems give Yggdrasil Gaming Slots a recognizable mechanical identity across both Yggdrasil releases and games distributed through its broader partner ecosystem.

Names such as GigaBlox, MultiMAX, Splitz, and GigaRise describe more than marketing labels – they explain how each game’s core mathematical action reaches the screen.

GigaBlox Creates Oversized Symbols

GigaBlox is perhaps the easiest mechanic to understand visually.

Instead of every reel position containing one standard symbol, a single matching icon can occupy several positions simultaneously.

In Primal Hunter GigaBlox, these blocks can reach 4×4 in size. If a giant symbol contributes to a win, it can disappear during the cascade and allow new icons to fall into the empty spaces.

Size matters because one oversized symbol can effectively provide numerous matching positions at once.

Giganimals GigaBlox adds another twist. Large GigaBlox symbols generate more points toward animal-specific Free Spins meters, while those points may also receive x2 to x5 multipliers.

That means the oversized symbol affects both immediate combinations and feature progression.

MultiMAX Builds Multipliers One Reel at a Time

MultiMAX is based on a different idea: each reel can develop its own multiplier.

The original Multifly! MultiMAX combines 243 ways, Dropdown wins, Wilds, and Reel Multipliers. A Dropdown win can add a Wild to a winning position, while that Wild raises the multiplier attached to its reel.

Qualifying wins passing through that reel then receive the multiplier.

Multiple active reels can make the result much more interesting.

The 2026 sequel MultiFly! 2 MultiMax continues this structure. Avalanche wins generate Wilds, while each Wild can increase its reel’s multiplier. In upgraded Free Spins, those multiplier increases can become larger.

This mechanic creates a sense of momentum.

The longer a winning sequence lasts, the more valuable certain reels can become.

Splitz Increases Symbol Density

Splitz is less about multipliers and more about putting additional matching symbols onto the reels.

Temple Stacks introduced the mechanic in 2020. Splitz mystery stacks can reveal between three and nine identical symbols, potentially filling substantial portions of a reel with one icon.

This differs from GigaBlox in a subtle but important way.

A GigaBlox is one giant symbol occupying several positions. Splitz creates multiple symbols of the same type inside its stack.

That distinction can change how the game’s paylines or symbol combinations are evaluated.

Temple Stacks then layers respins and tiered Free Spins on top of the mechanic, giving Splitz more opportunities to influence larger feature rounds.

The underlying principle remains simple: more matching symbols can create more opportunities for combinations.

GigaRise Makes Reel Height Persistent

GigaRise changes something even more fundamental: the size of the reels.

Yggdrasil describes the mechanic as allowing special symbols to increase reel height. Importantly, reel height can persist between spins rather than immediately resetting.

When a reel reaches its maximum size, an award event can trigger, such as Free Spins or another Bonus Game.

After that, the reel resets and can begin growing again.

This makes ordinary spins contribute toward a visible long-term objective.

Instead of progress being represented only by a meter beside the reels, the physical game area becomes taller.

Yggdrasil’s first title using the mechanic was Atlantean GigaRise, which also incorporated five progressive jackpots according to the provider’s technology overview.

It is a good example of feature progression being built directly into reel geometry.

Cascades Let the Mechanics Build Momentum

Many Yggdrasil titles pair proprietary mechanics with cascade or Dropdown systems.

The reason is practical.

If a winning combination immediately ended the round, there would be less opportunity for reel multipliers, expanding areas, or other progressive states to develop.

Dungeon Tower MultiMax uses a 5×5 layout, avalanche cascades, grid pays, Wilds, and MultiMAX reel multipliers. During its Monster Free Spins, those reel multipliers can continue growing without a stated upper limit within the mechanic.

Valley of the Gods uses repeated winning respins differently. Wins remove blockers and expand the play area rather than primarily building reel multipliers.

Both games rely on repeated successful events.

But what those repetitions build is completely different.

That variety is one of Yggdrasil’s stronger design traits.

Persistent Progress Makes Spins Feel Connected

Persistence appears across several Yggdrasil systems.

GigaRise can retain reel height between spins.

MultiMAX can build reel multipliers during a sequence.

Vikings Go Berzerk uses Rage Meters that accumulate from qualifying base-game wins before eventually unlocking character-specific Berzerk features.

Baron Samedi takes persistence much further through 36 collectible feature combinations represented by tarot cards. Completing a collection can activate Collection Free Spins with its associated feature already active.

These systems create the feeling that one spin can influence something later.

That does not mean a future win is guaranteed. Random outcomes still control whether useful symbols actually appear.

The difference is mainly structural: progress does not always vanish when the reels stop.

Jackpot Mechanics Can Be Integrated Into Collections

Yggdrasil has also used collection systems to make jackpots feel more interactive.

Holmes & the Stolen Stones includes five local progressive jackpots and a Shard Collection feature. Its special Jackpot Free Spins require collecting five diamond stones of the same color to award the corresponding jackpot.

This is different from a jackpot that appears through a completely separate random notification.

The collection mechanic shows the jackpot process directly inside the feature.

That visual structure can make the bonus easier to understand, although it does not turn jackpot play into a skill game.

Likewise, modern GigaBlox titles may combine giant symbols with hold-and-respin jackpots or other bonus formats.

The branded core mechanic is often only the starting point.

Yggdrasil Mixes Mechanics Across Different Game Formats

The current Yggdrasil catalogue can be filtered not only by mechanics but also by payout structure.

Its official library includes lines, ways, clusters, Infinity Reels, and scatter-pay games, alongside mechanics such as GigaBlox, MultiMAX, Splitz, GigaRise, DoubleMax, WildEnergy, and several newer systems.

That is important because the same general feature can behave very differently depending on the payout system around it.

A giant symbol in a fixed-payline game does not necessarily have the same mathematical effect as one inside a cluster or cascade game.

Likewise, reel multipliers interact differently with 20 paylines than with hundreds of ways.

Before judging any branded mechanic, check how the underlying game actually defines a win.

That context makes the feature far easier to evaluate.

Volatility Can Vary Dramatically

Yggdrasil mechanics are not tied to one fixed volatility level.

Holmes & the Stolen Stones is listed as low volatility. Valley of the Gods is high. Multifly! MultiMAX is also high, while Primal Hunter GigaBlox is medium-high.

Modern titles can also offer several RTP configurations.

That means the presence of a popular mechanic does not tell you everything about the game’s maths.

A GigaBlox title can be very differnt from another GigaBlox title once jackpots, cascades, feature frequencies, and maximum wins are considered.

Always treat RTP, volatility, maximum win, and the branded mechanic as seperate pieces of information.

Yggdrasil Gaming Slots stand out because many of their mechanics change the structure of the game itself.

GigaBlox creates giant symbols, MultiMAX builds reel-by-reel multipliers, Splitz increases symbol density, and GigaRise makes reel height part of long-term progression.

Read the rules behind each system rather than judging it by name alone, and these feature-heavy games become much easier – and more interesting – to understand.
