The Syphilis Infection

Many people will be completely unaware of any symptoms even when they have Syphilis. And Syphilis can be deadly if it is not treated.

The infection has three stages: primary, secondary, and late. Each stage has its own set of symptoms.

Primary Syphilis causes an ulcer and lymph gland enlargement. The ulcer is highly contagious, yet it usually causes no discomfort. It will eventually go away on its own, without the need for treatment. Therefore, some persons will be unaffected.

Syphilis infection might take up to 12 weeks (84 days) to show up in a syphilis home test kit. So, if you’re unsure when you were exposed, take a test now and another in 12-week time.

Syphilis is not very common compared to other STIs. However, it is becoming more prevalent these days. If you’ve had unprotected sex, get tested, especially if you’re a male who usually have sex with men or has several partners, as you’re more likely to be infected.
