The Need For Soft Tissue Occupational Therapy
There is a growing need for soft tissue occupational therapy (STOT) as people increasingly suffer from chronic pain, especially in their necks and shoulders. STOT helps individuals regain mobility, improve function and relieve pain.
According to the American Pain Society, chronic pain affects more than 100 million Americans, costing businesses an estimated $635 billion per year in lost productivity. That’s why STOT is such an important tool for both patients and practitioners.
The majority of people who suffer from chronic pain have conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, or spinal cord injury that cause inflammation and tightness in the muscles and tendons. STOT can help reduce these effects by restoring the range of motion, increasing strength and functionality, and reducing pain.
Many people prefer STOT because it is less invasive than other forms of treatment like surgery or physical therapy.
Despite these benefits, there are still many people who don’t receive STO services due to a lack of awareness or because they don’t have access to the necessary equipment or resources.
