Mexican Huaraches: An Introduction
Mexican Huaraches are Mexican flatbreads made of corn masa, usually topped with beans, cheese, onion, and chili pepper. They are often eaten for breakfast or lunch. Mexican Huaraches can also be filled with chorizo, shredded chicken, or turkey meat, in addition to the other ingredients. Mexican Huarache is a dish that traces its origins back centuries ago when ancient Aztec people would make these large round disks of dough cooked over hot stones in open fires. Mexican Huarache is still popular today in Mexico and regions within the United States where Mexicans have settled, such as Texas and California.
Mexican Huaraches are Mexican pastries that can be made in many different variations. Depending on the recipe used or what ingredients you have on hand, they may include eggs, cheese, and cilantro. However, the most common ingredients in Mexican Huaraches are masa harina (corn flour), lard or butter, and water. Mexican Huaraches can also be made with a variety of different meats such as beef, pork, lamb, chicken, or turkey meat, in addition to the other ingredients.
